Volume 2 | Weekend News Recap: Chicago Bulls Hire Their 1st Black GM

Happy Monday!

It’s the start of a new week.

This weekend was a vibe. If you’re a music lover, you were definitely vibing like me this weekend. There wasn't much major gossip or drama in the headlines this weekend beyond Gigi Hadid & Zayn Malik’s pregnancy announcement. This was a music weekend, new music broke the timeline. A new Drake project had the timeline buzzing. The consensus being that the album wasn't his best, beyond a couple songs, but even if Drake disappointed; Almost everyone was shocked and ecstatic when Meg Thee Stallion and Beyonce released Savage Remix. I saw so many lyrics from the song being tweeted, I don't need to listen to it. After Beyonce, Meg and Drake broke the internet with music, all news headlines were pushed to the side.

Headlines


1. Drake Album

This weekend Drake released a new project titled “Dark Lane Demo Tapes.” It’s not an album, it’s a 14- song mixtape with features from Chris Brown, Playboi Carti and Future.


2. Meg & Beyonce Savage Remix

Beyonce and Meg Thee Stallion gave the ladies what they’ve been needing, when the remix to Meg’s song “Savage” dropped this weekend. This is the first record between the two Texas natives. Verses from Beyonce like “On that Demon Time, she might start an OnlyFans” was the approval of Beyonce which made Only Fans now acceptable. Wow.


3. Gigi Hadid & Zayn Malik expecting a baby

Former One Direction singer Zayn Malik and supermodel Gigi Hadid are expecting their first child together, a baby girl. Gigi confirmed the pregnancy on an episode of the Tonight Show with host Jimmy Fallon, after the news after spread to the timeline.

 

Missed Headlines


1. Supreme Court holds the first phone hearing

The Supreme Court made the decision in late March to postpone all oral arguments when the pandemic first started. Weeks later, they announced they would hold remote sessions for select cases. The Supreme Court held its first remote oral argument today, Monday.


2. Chicago Bulls First Black GM

The Chicago Bulls announced on May 1st, the hire of Marc Eversley. He is the first black general manager of the franchise. This will be Eversley's first time being a general manager, having previously been Vice President of basketball operations for the Philadelphia 76ers. Marc Eversley is only the seventh black general manager in the NBA.


3. Fox fires Diamond & Silk

Fox News made the decision to part ways with sisters Lynette “Diamond” Hardaway and Rochelle “Silk” Richardson after statements they made regarding the coronavirus and how to combat it. The sisters, Diamond & Silk were hired by Fox after their public support for President Trump during his 2016 presidential campaign.


4. Security Guard killed over wearing a mask

On Friday, 43-year old Calvin Munerlyn, a security guard at a Family Dollar in Flint, Michigan, was shot in the head and killed after asking a customer to put on a mask. As a part of an executive order from Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, all retail employees and customers are required to wear masks. After disputing with a female customer over wearing a mask, the woman was seen on video leaving the store and returning 20 minutes later with two men, one of them being Munerlyn’s killer.


5. Three Russian Doctors treating the virus have fallen from windows

Dr. Aleksandr Shulepov is currently in critical condition after falling from a window according to Russian media. Dr. Shulepov is one of three doctors who have fallen from windows after publicly speaking out about working while sick with COVID-19 in the last two weeks.
